You are all wrong.
Ok title a little Harsch, oops i mean harsh. anyway, todays lesson? im setting straight a small thing that everyone seems to get wrong (or at least say the easy way). Noah's Ark. now most (or some of you) are thinking, i know the story. he built the Ark, put 2 of each animal on it, floated around for a while, then landed and lived happily ever after. I just thought i would clarify or show you interesting things about it. It dimentions "450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. Gen. 6:15" (all passages taken from Bible Gateway) One of the main things i wanted to say about the Ark is that it is not entirely true that there were 2 of each animal. well there were 2 of each animal but some had more than 2. 14 to be exact. "19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them. (Gen 6)" so you are all thinking, ya see 2 of every animal. but then later it says "2 Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, 3 and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. (Gen 7)" So there were accually 14 of every clean animal. this was good thinking on Gods part for later, " 20 Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. (Gen 8)" see this would have been a really bad idea to sacrifice animals if there were only 2 of them. Good planning God.
Now the whole timing of the flooding and staying in the Ark and stuff.[note: this is my interpretation, im not 100% sure on all the times and stuff.]
1) "11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month-on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. (Gen 7)" So forty days of rain.
2) "24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days. (Gen 7)" i beleive this includes the forty days of rain. so they are sitting at 150 days and they have just reached the peak of the flood.
3)"3 The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down, 4 and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. (Gen 8). ok so the 150 days wasnt the peak, it was the accual time earth was flooded. so five months, assuming 30 days, 150 days. ok works out. [note: ive never heard of a thing called editing. i think of it, i type it, its wrong, i just say so, i dont change it]. so half a year in an Ark with 2 (or 14) of each animal. now they have landed, finally they get to get out right? wrong.
4) Gen 8 "6 After forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark" (190 days) "10 He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark." (197 days) "12 He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him." (204 days) "13 By the first day of the first month of Noah's six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry. 14 By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry. 15 Then God said to Noah, 16 "Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives." ok 17th day of 2nd month to 17th of first (assuming 12), 330 days, to 27th day, 340 days (ish). 340 DAYS!!! WOW. thats a long time. what is also amazing, having (and maybe givein) food to all those animals for 340 days. that woulda been crazy. anyway, there is my post to set things straight.

PS i love how half of the post was copy and pasted so it looks way longer.
